The pass openings are mainly round and the detector casings are made of metal which shields them against external magnetic influences. If metal is registered, an electrical impulse is available at the output end of the transistor. The transistor outputs have static or dynamic switching behavior, depending on the ring type. Ring detectors in metal casings can be obtained with round pass sizes of 20 to 300 mm with various sensitivity levels and design shapes. Certain areas around the detector must be laid out in such a way that they are free of any moving metal parts prior to fitting the ring detectors.

In most injection molding processes, for example, the speed of the granulate material in the suction vaccum lines is rarely consistent. Metal contamination is most likely to occur at those points where the speed of the granulate varies. Our metal extraction devices reduce the effects of this variable speed using a special cyclone inside the housing. With this cyclone, you can reliably extract the metal depending on the speed of material and how long the material rotates in the cyclone. This means that you don’t have to adjust the distance between the ring and flap. All our extractors feature an ultra high sensitive control unit. If you require higher sensitivity, we recommend the M-Pulse electronic board.

If you require higher levels of sensitivity, consider our digital metal extractor. Capable of sensitivity levels starting at 0.4 mm and a higher rate of reliability than its analog counterpart, the digital extractor uses a digital PC board and a different mode of operation. The new digital technology provides greater protection against metal contamination, is more reliable, and is more automated due to its multifunction panel. Instead of using a potentiometer like the standard analog extractor, this device has greater self monitoring capabilities and provides better protection against environmental conditions that can adversely affect the metal detection process.

At the top of the metal detection scale, is the M-Pulse generation of metal extractors. To reach higher levels of sensitivity and reliability than standard analog and digital models, the M-Pulse units use a very powerful digital PC board. Tunnel detectors are best suited for products ranging in height of 50 mm and higher. This includes products from raw materials for automotive tires to PET bottles and PE cups. Integration of the tunnel metal detector in a conveyor belt system is complicated by metal free zones. But it will depend on the properties of the product and the type of metal particles to be detected.

Flat products such as plastic foil, flat packaging and hardware are best analysed by surface detectors that are integrated beneath the track running surface. Our surface detectors detect all kinds of metal in products wider that the width of the running surface. As a general rule of thumb, detection sensitivity will decrease as the distance increases. Using a surface detector under the running surface is only recommended for those products that are no higher than 50 mm. Compared to Tunnel detectors, surface metal detectors are extremely simple to integrate into a conveyor belt system. This is mostly due to the fact that they can be mounted directly under the running track.
